how many lift days should someone have in one week and how many times a week should I be hitting the same muscle group?

After a workout, the muscle needs 48 hours to recover, so there are many different splits. If you go fullbody, then you should be going 3 times a week. Upper/ lower should be 4 days, 2 upper and 2 lower (for example, Mon Thurs- Upper, Tues Fri -Lower).
