MLB Looks at rethinking the fastball

Interesting and somewhat exciting arty. 2 of the best records in MLB this year and less than 50% fastball usage…

Nice article. I was thinking to myself while reading it that when pitchers get behind and need a strike…here comes the cheese. Hitters know this, sit on it, and put a good swing on it when it catches too much plate. That’s why the BA vs the fastball is 20 points higher than vs the cutter… then I read this part…
There is no such thing as a fastball count against New York’s starting pitchers. They are likely to throw sliders, changeups or cutters on 2-and-0 and 3-and-1 counts. The Red Sox kept sitting on fastballs, but they just weren’t coming.

Fastballs are great, but your must have command of it to use it to full effect. Coach Strom says that MLB hitters can put wood to a bullet. Hit your spot.
