Whir or buzz?

In order for a baseball to whiz or buzz in the air does it have to be a certain velocity or does it just depend on how tight the rotation is?

It’s velocity, but it’s also grip and wrist flick. A four seamer will give you that “pfffft” sound better than a two seamer. The harder you throw, the greater the likelihood you’ll hear it, too.

thanks for the answer. My friend and I were at a game and were watching the pitchers warming up just to hear the pfffffffffff of the fastball and each time we were like oooooh yeah. Nothing sounds better than that.
