I’m about 12 1/2 and I throw 59-66. I am playing Legion ball. Is this a good speed for my age and caliber?
More importantly, can you change speeds? And do so while the batter sees the same arm speed?
Do you consistently hit your spots?
Can you throw all your pitches to both sides of the plate to L and R hitters?
Do your pitches have any movement?
Let’s check off these first.
Then let’s consider velocity.
Before replying to this, I will say I’m being completely honest:
I can change speeds with a good change-up. It does have screwball type movement. The arm speed 90% of the time is the same.
I have average accuracy. That’s my main goal to improve accuracy. However, I still can hit corners and throw strikes, I just can’t nibble the way Maddux does (but then again who can… Tom Glavine ).
But I was just wondering.
Kudos to you for recognizing that you need to work on command. Don’t forget that in addition to in and out you need to be high and low too. Up and in then low and away. L and R hitters.
Velocity will come as you grow and mature. Too much focus on velocity risks arm injury. Focus on correct mechanics and command for now.
Keep up the good work!
