Hey guys. I have a weight vest that I use for hockey at home. Its a simple, canvas vest that has pockets for weight plates. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to use it while throwing a bullpen session. Is it or should I steer clear of it?
Generally this would be completely steered clear of. Weighted vest are awesome tools for training, but not for skills practice.
It’s not favorable to add resistence while doing any skills as it can heavily alter your regular movement patterns.
Leave the weighted vest for your resistence training and then transfer that training by practicing your skills. Attempting to blend the two will give you less than optimal results if not problems.
I don’t know how far back the archive on Steve’s blog goes, but I’m certain that around a year ago he blogged about this as someone had asked.
