I currently own 3 different handle style tension bands. I can use them in different combinations to adjust the overall tension I am applying. I'm not sure if the handles are better than the ones with the Velcro around the wrist. I do know that when I put tension on the each, the feel is different and some of the muscles activated in the arm are different.
Dick Mills says that the correct muscles are active with the handle type bands. Does anyone know differently?
I do think that the bands help me get warm and I also use them after throwing to keep my blood circulating through my arm during warm down. I have not iced my arm even one time since Sophomore year in HS and I've had no arm pain beyond some mild fatigue the day after throwing.
My son follows my routine and has not once complained of arm soreness--and he throws heat for his age and always has gas in the tank after reaching league pitch count maximums.
