Throwing during off season

I’ve heard different view on throwing during the off season.
I heard that I should not throw because it my arm requires a break every year.
And I’ve also heard that throwing long toss during the off season means you come back next year with plus ten mph on your fastball.

What do you guys think?

I like to take 1-2 months of active rest. Lifting, running, whatever. Just no throwing. After the 1-2 months are up though i start throwing again.

Agreed, I normally have about 2-3 months rest though. It varies slightly from person to person. This year I’m really using that time to build up by shoulder strength which I didn’t really last year.
