Does anyone know how he throws it?
This video shows Rivera throwing his 4-seam cutter in slow-mo:

Here is a closeup of this grip:
how exactly is a cutter supposed to spin? the video isnt very clear, it just kinda looks like its a messy spin
mine spins like a slider so im guessing its not a cutter
All a cutter is, is an offbalance fastball. You hold it offbalance a little to the side of the ball and when you thorw it, it’s a bit slower than your fastball, but will tail a little.
ohh
my fastball has that naturally
It’s different than a 2-seam. The seams don’t cause the tail, the way you hold the fastball. I doubt your fastball natrually does this. Yes it may tail but unless you hold it off-balance it won’t be the same as a cutter.
so hold it like a two seam grip with all the pressure on middle finger and thumb?

It could be thrown like this but if its held offbalance, it will have even more movement.

Heres a good topic I made with a lot of input from others and some more detailed explanation. It gets bumped a lot so theres 3 pages of stuff, not sure which of its the good stuff but you can dig through if you want.
i think its just how i release cuz i hold it like a reg fastball and it spins like a halfway slider
