Returning to the Hill

Hey all,

It’s been awhile since I last threw off a mound and wanted to get some quick feedback on “normal soreness.” First outing, long toss, 30 pitch pen, fastballs, couple changes.

Soreness back of the shoulder (I assume those good ol’ declerator muscles need some more conditioning)

Soreness on the top of the forearm, near the elbow. No pain inside the elbow.

Had my labrum/rotator cuff/scar tissue removal surgery in '07.
Broke my humerous pitching '05.

I’m a touch concerned about the forearm, but it’s barely been 48 hours. I think most likely I am a little too worried based on old injuries, but would love some feedback on what most guys experience coming back. It’s been awhile for me!

WELCOME BACK TO THE BUMP.
A word of advice—don’t try to do too much at first. As you said, it’s been a while, and you want to ease back into it. As you said, those decelerator muscles need some reconditioning, so do it, but don’t push too much yet. Give yourself time, and don’t worry about what you call “normal” soreness—it will go away in time as you get back in the groove. 8)

How’s it all feeling now that it’s been a few weeks? Any improvements?
