Pitches

since i don’t have the velocity to overpower batters, what are some pitches i could throw to fool batters more?

I’m the same way as you. I’m 15 and top out around 70. I throw a lot of junk–Knuclecurve, 2 Seam Fastball, Circle Change and a Knucke ball sometimes.

Hoovedawg…what level of baseball do you play? Freshmen, JV or Vars.?

If its Freshmen or JV, 70 and good location against most teams can get the job done.

I play JV. I top out around 70 and sit in the mid 60’s in a hame. The other guys throw mid 70’s tops and throw upper 60’s or low 70’s. My coaches think there is a really big difference, so I don’t get to pitch much (plus I’m 5’7" 130 lbs so Im not very intimidating).

Regardless of velocity, if you are able to locate with movement, and change speeds, you’ll get outs. Instead of working on more pitches, try on improving the location and movement on your fastball and on command of the changeup. You can add in a nice breaker every now and again, but when that’s all you throw, you never develope your arm or your ability to locate the fastball.
