Lifting Back foot

I recently heard Dan Haren (sp?) from the D-Backs say that in his last game he lost a lot of velocity because he was lifting his back foot just prior to delivering the ball.

Does anyone have some ideas on good drills that will help reinforce this point to young players. Thanks,


In my opinion, Haren’s problem is that he pauses at the balance point and loses momentum. From there, his lack of momentum causes him to spin out and fall off to the side. That’s what pulls his back foot off the ground early. So, practice good momentum, good posture and balance, and good mechanics in general to avoid timing problems. These are the things that pull the back foot up early.
