Height and Weight

#1

I was just wondering if any one knew the average height and weight of an MLB pitcher. I know they come in all heights and weights but I was just wondering. I have been trying to find it on the internet but never got a true answer. Thanks!

I’m not sure how you could find it out.
Try searching the web.

Check the “Emerald Guide to Baseball”—it’s available both online and in softcover—and early on in the book it has those data on all the pitchers in both leagues. And I think you’ll find that it’s virtually impossible to come up with an average height and weight, because there are so many variations! Most of them are between 6’0" and 6’5", but there are enough outside those parameters that you’ll find yourself getting dizzy. So just enjoy them.

Zita Carno-
That’s a great book (Emerald Guide to Baseball).
I’ve read and looked at some of it.
It’s full of information and stats on every pitcher in MiLB and MLB.
Anyone who wants to learn more stats about any pitcher should definitely look into getting this book.

Great question!

You might want to watch how many posts you post which are like that.
I have posted things like that before (including: Good question, thanks, thanks for the link, etc.)
and I have gotten some really heated replies about it.

Cards, stop being melodramatic about it. This was one, in a recent thread. You did many, in very old threads.

As for the average height of a Major League Pitcher:

If the Yankees are representative of MLB teams, the average height of MLB pitchers looks to be about 6’4":

UPDATE: I just computed the actual listed heights of the Yankees pitchers and the average height is 75.77 inches, or 6 feet 3-3/4 inches … close to my initial estimate above of 6’4".

Darn. I just responded to another ancient thread resurrected by CardsWin and didn’t know it.

I just now figured that out. I should look before posting…

Stop dredging up 5 year old inactive threads with your inane comments. You’re screwing up the board. What are you trying to do? Pad the number of your posts so you can go to the next “level”?

(P.S.-those were your words.)
