Well I realized its been ages since I updated my log.
Frustrating week, weather washed everything out pretty much.
My lifting was cut to two sessions for the week, and it'll probably stay there through the season.
I did cleans and lower body stuff on like sunday, and upperbody stuff on Thursday. I Cleaned 200lbs no problem. Felt pretty good. My force absorptions were awesome. 36" felt like 24" and 48" felt like 36. That means my vertical and speed strength is set to explode.
But.... now I have to do all the excessive distance running without any scheduled in time for leg work, because that's how my high school works. Every year I lose tons of power and speed, I'm going to do my best to fight it but we shall see. My knees are aching from the running, and they don't feel "good." Most likely I'll just have to accept sub-par sessions in order to keep my leg strength up.
For the scrimmage I played pretty well. 1-2 with a single and an RBI. I pitched 2 innings, saw 6 hitters although I gave up a hit and a walk (pickoffs) I just have to stop thinking on the mound.
The most significant thing of the week. Friday I went to meet with a pitching coach across town.
The most productive hour I've had on a mound since I left Kentucky my freshman year. The coach picked up some stuff just from tossing with me and was able to verbalize it in a way that made perfect sense.
Instantly better control, movement and velocity. Now it's just a matter of making the mechanical changes second nature. The biggest thing is, the mental cues are easy enough that they don't throw everything off when I'm considering them.
As JD says, you eat an elephant one bite at a time.
Took some BP today, my dad threw, but not to bad. I really focused on letting it get deep and maintaining my strike zone. I found the sweet spot and my launch angle. Big things to come at the dish.
Sooo, it looks to be a lovely 70 degrees for most the week. I'm going to try and arrange 2 or 3 hitting sessions this week to really make sure I'm zoned in and comfortable at that.
Got my college stuff 100% completed, turned in all the financial aid stuff now, etc.
Just have to do some outside scholarships now.
My workload this semester has dipped off, because I picked up two law classes, which for me, are elementary. I find myself doing other homework in those classes just to stay awake, although getting home and having nothign to do is a beautiful feeling.
Big things to come, the season starts in three weeks. I just gotta stay focused and keep the momentum forward.
I've worked harder than any of my competition and I know I'm there to succeed. Now I just have to get my brain turned off when I step over the chalk onto the field.
My big goal for this year is to keep lifting with a plan so that I don't just end up really weak in the middle of the season.
