One of the college coaches I talked to said that it was not good for a pitcher to bench. He said it puts too much strain on the rotator cuffs and that if you want to keep your body proportionate do dumbell flies. What do you guys think?
I only do bench with dumb bells on a swiss ball, I agree that bench with a barbell loads the shoulders and puts them in a vulnerable position. I’ve also heard this from some physical therapists and surgeons.
Straight bar bench pressing with a fixed pronated grip (using a traditional barbell) should probably be avoided at least in-season.
Neutral grip bench press with DBs can be very effective, though I’d limit the use of them in-season to avoid overuse.
