what ever happened to this guy. he went from being a cy young great pitcher to terrible now. i dont think he had an injury. talk about bad contracts the giants gave him awhile ago.
Zito is going to turn it around this year. Hes gona come out with his bad boy feel. His mother just pasted this past thursday. They had a tight bond hes gona play for her. He was showing flashes of a cy young towards this past year. Hitting 89. Someone as good as he was just doesnt go away.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in the begging of the season he was throwing 83-84 and since he doesn't have the control Maddux/Moyer do the ball either missed the zone or when it did get the zone it got hit hard. Also his fastball didn't move alot and tended to drift slowly. But if he keeps throwing 89 with his devastating change and terrific curve he will be fine.
Kaz covered most of it, also he said that he was tipping his curveball and in turn trying to fix this he lost movement on it. He's just not the old Zito (or the one the Giants paid $127,000,000 for).
ya he did lose alot of velocity, howd that happen. i saw something on tv today about zito back when he was with the A's and he worked with Jaeger alot.
numero 500 fyi .
There was an article in PLAY (only one I've ever read cause it had a pitcher on it) about him. That's where I got the info. I'll see about a link.
He has cut down alot on the long toss during last off-season so when Spring Training came around his arm didn't have enough time to get ready and back to normal condition for season start.
I think that there has been damage to his elbow due to over using his curveball. He would probably benefit from tommy john
I think if his elbow was injured he would of gone to that as an excuse a long time ago. I doubt thats the reason. He is always known as coming off stronger the second half of the year. I dont know what it is but hes gona have to come out with that fire the start of the season.
