I’m an umpire that’s move up through the levels of baseball. I’m wanting to be the best I can and was wondering where to find the best information on Balking calls. I know it’s a judgement call by the umpire but everyone has a different opion about what is and isn’t a balk. There is also quick pitch and something called a slide step pitch. Any good advice and tips on making a better balk call would be greatly appreciated!

I think what you’re asking is pretty broad. There’s no simple answer. I’m not sure what level you’re at but I would suggest that you make sure to have the appropriate rule book as well as the accompanying case book if there is one. (For example, I know there is a case book for high school ball.) Also, has a message board devoted to umpire questions. There are some knowledgeable people over there.
