Let's say you're running a team's pen, either MLB, farm system, or college and you're looking at two prospects.
One has overwhelming velocity with sup par control (Fastball mid 90's, change up mid to low 80's, decent hard curve movement lacking control), but he lacks the ability to command the plate.
The other has average to below average velocity (Fastball low to mid 80's, two seamer with great movement low 80's, 11-5 curve, every pitch with excellent location) great command of the plate, but the velocity leaves something to be desired.
Which one do you go for if they had similar ERAs?
Hypothetical question, I was talking to another pitcher about control vs velocity so I figured I'd run the question by you.
Do you prefer the overwhelming velocity or the precise location and movement?
